April M Ballard, MPH is an Environmental Health Science PhD Candidate at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. She researches environmental and socio-behavioral determinants of water-, sanitation-, and hygiene-related (WASH) health outcomes, and is particularly interested in integrating social and behavioral methodologies into environmental health, as well as promoting humanistic and pragmatic approaches to public health. Most of her work is domestic with people experiencing homelessness, focusing heavily on gender and rural health disparities. Broadly, her research seeks to understand how social (e.g., stigma) and environmental (e.g., resource availability, water quality) conditions influence behaviors and health outcomes related to WASH.
