Lorraine N. Vélez-Torres, MPH

Lorraine N. Vélez-Torres, MPH is a Microbiology PhD Candidate at the University of Puerto Rico – Medical Sciences Campus. Her research focuses on evaluating fungal spore concentration, composition and immunotoxicity in water-damaged and flooded homes in the aftermath of Hurricane María in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her goal is to develop guidelines for post-flood recovery efforts in the Caribbean Basin. Lorraine is the current Vice-President of Graduate Women in Science – Puerto Rico chapter and Co-Founder of “Vistazo a la Ciencia”. She strives towards increased visibility of women in STEM and accessible science for everyone.
